Cricket | India tour of Australia

  • Australia vs India || Test 2, Day 4 update || India won by 8 wickets (on Day 4 itself !!)
  • Summary of the match - Australia won the toss and decided to bat. Scored 195 in the first innings
  • In reply to this India scored 326 and took a lead of 131 runs
  • In the 2nd Inning, Australia got out early at 200, and finally, India scored 70/2 wining the Test match by 8 wickets
  • Ajinkya Rahane was declared as a player of the match. He scored 112 in the first innings and 27 (not out) in the second inning
  • 21-year-old Shubham Gill gave a promising start to his career, scoring 45 in the first inning and 35 (not-out) in the second
  • Also debutant Mohammed Siraj was impressive in his first test as he took 5 wickets in the test
  • There are total 4 tests to be played in this series, out of which one test has been won by each team
  • The third test will begin on Thursday, 07 January 2021, at Sydney Cricket Ground

  • Sri Lanka vs South Africa || Test 1, Day 4 update || South Africa won by an innings and 45 runs (please note it was only Day 4 !!)
  • Summary - Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat (turned out to be a bad decision!)
  • Sri Lanka scored 396 in the first inning and South Africa replied with a mammoth score of 621
  • Sri Lanka came under tremendous pressure and eventually got out at 180 in the second inning
  • Faf du Plessis was declared as a player of the match. He scored 199 in the first innings (eventually the first and last inning for South Africa)
  • With this win, South Africa takes a lead in the two-test series
  • The Second Test will start from 03 January 2021 at Wanderers Stadium

 

Cricket | Pakistan tour of New Zealand

  • New Zealand vs Pakistan || Test 1, Day 4 update || New Zealand 431 (all-out) and 180/5 (declared); Pakistan 239 (all-out) and 71/3
  • To win Pakistan needs 302 runs on Day 5 (98 overs) with 7 wickets in hand (Tough ?)
  • Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl
  • New Zealand scored 431 in the first inning  (Kane Williamson scored 129 runs; BJ Watling scored 73 runs; Ross Taylor scored 70 runs)
  • In reply to this Pakistan scored 239 (Faheem Ashraf scored 91 runs; Mohammad Rizwan scored 71 runs)
  • New Zealand took a lead of 192 runs in the first inning and declared the second inning at 180 for the loss of 5 wickets
  • Pakistan got a target of 373 to win the test match
  • Pakistan is now batting at 71 for the loss of 3 wickets (Azhar Ali playing at 34 and Fawad Alam playing at 21)
  • It's going to be a tough day 5 for Pakistan given their openers Shan Masood and Abid Ali are already out (both got out at duck)
  • New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson was fined a 25 percent match fee as he threw the ball at the Pakistani batsman, during fielding
  • Not only this, even the Australian team was fined a 40 percent match fee and 4 ICC World Test Championship points for slow over-rate
  • This is two-test series and the Second Test will start on Sunday, 03 January 2021

    

Cricket | Big Bash League (BBL) 10

  • Today two matches were played in the BBL 10
  • In the first T20 match, Sydney Sixers (169/6) and beat Melbourne Renegades (168/6) by 2 wickets (with one ball remaining). The Player of the match was Jason Holder from Sydney Sixers, who scored 33 runs (not-out) in 18 balls and also took 1 wicket
  • In the second T20 match, Sydney Thunders (219/7) beat Melbourne Stars (144) by 75 runs (that's a good win with a huge margin!). The Player of the match was Alex Hales from Sydney Thunders, who scored 71 runs in 29 balls
  • Sydney Strikers leads the table with 16 points (4 wins in 5 matches) followed by Sydney Thunder with 15 points (4 wins in 5 matches)
  • The twentieth BBL 10 match will be played on Wednesday, 30 December 2020 between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat

 

Football | India working towards hosting 2027 Asian Cup

  • India wishes to host the 2027 Asian Cup and have submitted an impressive bid to the committee
  • It is proposed to host the matches in 11 cities (Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Pune, Goa, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Kochi (for Semi), Navi Mumbai (2 venues, one will be for semi), New Delhi (for Semi), Thiruvananthapuram (for Semi) and Kolkata (for Finals)
  • A budget of INR 318.65 crores has been proposed for hosting the cup
  • India also got a positive testimony from Callum Hudson-Odoi (England and Chelsea midfielder)

 

Football | Increased Covid-19 cases in Premier League

  • Premier League has reported 18 Covid-19 positive cases in the last week
  • These are the highest numbers reported in a single week after 1,479 tests were conducted on players and club staff 
  • Manchester City previously announced that their striker Gabriel Jesus and defender Kyle Walker were tested positive
