Cricket | England Tour of Sri Lanka

  • England vs Sri Lanka, Second Test, Day 2 report -
  • Sri Lanka played fabulous cricket on Day 2, as they scored 381 in its first inning and getting 2 wickets of England by the end of the Day
  • This test is going to be difficult for England given Sri Lanka's dedication in its first inning
  • Sri Lankan batsmen Angelo Mathews scored 110,  Wicket Keeper Niroshan Dickwella scored 92, Dilruwan Perera scored 67 and Captain Dinesh Chandimal scored 52 runs
  • James Anderson of England had a 6 wicket haul, Mark Took took 3 wickets, and 1 wicket was taken by Sam Curran
  • England is at 98 for the loss of 2 wickets by the end of Day 2. Both the openers got out early. At one point in time, England was at 5 runs for 2 wickets. Captain Joe Root is playing at 67 runs supported by Jonny Bairstow who is at 24 runs
  • England won the first test and as of now leading the two-test series by 1-0

  • Top run-scorers in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy - Narayan Jagadeeshan from Tamil Nadu has scored 315 runs at an average of 157 runs, Avi Borat from Gujarat has scored 283 runs at an average of 56 runs and Prabhsimran Singh of Punjab has scored 277 runs at an average of 92 runs
  • Highest Wicket takers in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy - Ashutosh Aman from Bihar - 14 wickets in 5 matches,  Avesh Khan of Madhya Pradesh 14 wickets in 5 matches, and Ishan Porel of Bengal - 13 wickets in 5 matches

 

Cricket | Big Bash League (BBL) season 10

  • In the first BBL match today, Brisbane Heat (173/5) beat Melbourne Renegades (147 all-out) by 26 runs
  • 26-year old all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne of Brisbane Heat was declared as 'man of the match' as he scored 49 runs in 31 balls and also took a wicket. Brisbane Heat's Chris Lynn scored 52 runs in 30 balls and Mark Steketee took 3 wickets
  • In the Second match - Perth Scorchers (182/4) beat Melbourne Stars (171/6) by 11 runs
  • 30-year old Jason Roy who is playing for Sydney Thunders smashed 54 runs in 32 balls and was declared as the 'man of the match'. Colin Munro also scored 46 (not-out) in 30 balls
  • Perth Scorchers now lead the BBL season 10 table with 32 points (8 wins in 13 matches), followed by Sydney Sixers with again 32 points (8 wins in 12 matches) but with a lower run rate vs Perth Scorchers
  • Sydney Thunders and Brisbane Heat are the third and fourth place, respectively
  • Tomorrow - Sunday, 24th January 2021 we have two BBL10 matches scheduled. The first match is Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers, and the second match is Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes

 

Badminton | Toyota Thailand Open 19 Jan 2021 - 24 Jan 2021

  • India got thrashed out of the Toyota Thailand Open 2021 at the semi-final stage
  • Men Doubles - Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (India) lost to Aaron Chia and Son Wool Yik (Malaysia) in straight sets - 18-21, 18-21
  • Mixed Doubles - Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa (India) lost to Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand) - 20-22, 21-18, 12-21

 

Cricket | West Indies tour of Bangladesh

The third and the final One-Day International (ODI) between Bangladesh and West Indies will be played on Monday, 25th January 2021

 

Cricket | Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021 - Schedule

  • The fourth edition of the T10 League will be played from 28 January 2021 till 06 February 2021 in Abu Dhabi
  • 8 teams will participate who will play 29 matches in total
  • Each team will have 8 players and 10 overs to play (90 min per side)
  • Group A teams - Bangla Tigers, Northern Warriors, Maratha Arabians, and Delhi Bulls
  • Group B teams - Pune Devils, Qalanders, Deccan Gladiators, and Team Abu Dhabi
  • Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Shoaib Malik, and Shahid Afridi will be participating in the tournament

 

Cricket | South Africa tour of Pakistan

  • Two-Tests series between Pakistan and South Africa will begin on 26 January 2021
  • The Second Test will be played from 04 February 2021 onwards

 

Cricket | England Tour of India

  • Post completing the Sri Lanka tour, the England cricket team will visit India for playing four Tests and five T20s
  • The first test will be played on 05 February 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai
  • It will be played behind closed doors and no spectators will be allowed
  • The Indian team will reach Chennai on 27 January 2021 for the practice
  • Bowler Kuldeep Yadav is expected to join the Indian squad for this test series
  • The good part is that England spinners are not able to perform in Sri Lanka and are likely to continue the trend on Indian soil too

  • Cricket - Former Ireland all-round cricketer Roy Torrens died at the age of 72 years. He played Ireland's first-class cricket from 1966 to 1982 and was the manager of the Ireland Cricket team in 2019
  • Football - Holders Arsenal lost to Southampton by 0-1 in a dramatic match in Football Association Challenge Cup (commonly known as the FA cup). Gabriel Magalhaes, unfortunately, did an own goal in the first half and as per the Arsenal team, the match got over at that very moment itself
  • Wrestling - The wrestlers at Noida stadium competed in an environment that was far away from Covid protocols. This was a men's freestyle competition, and although wrestlers had to produce the Covid negative certificate, there was no such condition for the coach, referee, and support staff. The arena was full of spectators, where no one was following any social distancing or even wearing a mask. God save us!
