Cricket | BCCI Friendly match

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a friendly cricket match today (Wednesday, 23 December 2020) at Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad prior to its annual general meeting.
  • The 12 over match was between BCCI President's XI (led by Sourav Ganguly) vs BCCI Secretary's XI (Jay Shah)
  • Ganguly scored 53 not out and took the wicket of Jay Shah
  • Former Indian captain, Mohammad Azharuddin, played for BCCI Secretary's XI  and scored 37 off 22 balls
  • BCCI Secretary's XI scored 128/3 in 12 overs and won the match by 28 runs


Cricket | BCCI Annual General meeting | Agenda

  • BCCI will hold its annual general meeting on 24 December 2020 in Ahmedabad. Below are the major agenda points, amongst others;
  • Addition of two new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. As per the grapevine, the two new franchises could come in from 2022
  • Update on the T20 World Cup scheduled in 2021
  • Inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics


Cricket | Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

  • India's domestic cricket season will kick off with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which will be played from 10 January 2021 till 31 January 2021
  • The matches will be played in a bio-secure bubble
  • The six venues are Bangalore, Kolkata, Vadodara, Indore, Mumbai, and Chennai
  • Dinesh Karthik has been announced as captain of the Tamil Nadu team


Cricket | Big Bash League (BBL) 10

  • Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by 2 runs in the thirteenth match of BBL 10
  • Adelaide Strikers scored 150 for 6 wickets (Matt Renshaw - 32; Xavier Bartlett - 3/24)
  • Brisbane Heat scored 148 for 9 wickets (Jimmy Peirson - 69 not out; Danny Briggs - 3/20)
  • Both the teams will again clash on 21 January 2021 in the forty-sixth match of BBL 10
  • The next BBL 10 match will be played on Saturday, 26 December 2020 between Sydney Thunder and Renegades
  • Hobart Hurricanes leads the table with 11 points (3 wins in 4 matches) followed by Melbourne Stars with 10 points (2 wins in 3 matches)


Cricket | Australia vs India

  • Test 2 of 4 is scheduled for Saturday, 26 December 2020
  • Australia leads the series by 1-0 after defeating India by eight wickets in the first test match
  • Sunil Gavaskar hinted at a divide in the Indian cricket team highlighting that India skipper Virat Kohli got permission to leave the tour to attend the birth of his child, while bowler T Natarajan became a proud father during IPL playoffs and is yet to see his daughter

  • Batting - Dawid Malan (England) holds the top position with 915 points, followed by Babar Azam (Pakistan) with 820 points and KL Rahul (India) with 816 points
  • Bowling - Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) holds the top position with 736 points, followed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Afghanistan) with 730 points and Adil Rashid (England) with 700 points
  • All Rounder - Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) holds the top position with 294 points, followed by Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) with 268 points and Glenn Maxwell (Australia) with 225 points


Cricket | England tour of Sri Lanka

  • England is scheduled to play Two tests with Sri Lanka beginning 14 January 2020 at Galle International Cricket Stadium
  • Despite travel restrictions from United Kingdom (due to the new Cover 19 strains), the England team will still be permitted to fly to Sri Lanka
  • Jacques Kallis has been appointed as the batting consultant for the England team for this series


Cricket | Pakistan tour of New Zealand

  • Two test match series between New Zealand and Pakistan will begin from 26 December 2020
  • Pakistani all-rounder cricketer, Shadab Khan, has been injured and will not play the first test. Left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar will replace him
  • The second Test is scheduled for 03 January 2020
  • Earlier New Zealand won the T20 series by 2-1
