Cricket | India tour of Australia

  • We saw good cricket on Day 2 of the third Test between Australia vs India. Here is the summary -
  • Australia won the toss & decided to bat and scored 338 in the first inning
  • In reply, India put on board 96 runs for the loss of 2 wickets
  • Steve Smith smashed a ton while Marnus Labusshagne missed his century (91 runs)
  • The sad part is that after such a beautiful knock, Steve Smith got run out (a direct hit by Ravindra Jadeja)
  • Man of the day was Ravindra Jadeja who also took 4 wickets, at an economy rate of 3.44
  • Indian openers had a good start but later it fizzled out
  • Rohit Sharma got out at 26 while the debutant Shubham Gill scored a half-century
  • By the end of Day 2, Pujara (9 runs) and Rahane (5 runs) were holding the Indian fort
  • This test is turning out good for all debutants - Shubham Gill (scored half-century), Will Pucovski (scored half-century), and Navdeep Saini (took 2 wickets)

 

Cricket | Big Bash League (BBL) season 10

  • Melbourne Renegades (178/4) beat Adelaide Strikers (177/7) by 6 wickets (1 ball remaining)
  • All-rounder Mohammad Nabi (Melbourne Renegades) was awarded as the Man of the match as he smashed 71 runs in 41 balls
  • Peter Hatzoglou (Melbourne Renegades) took 3 wickets for 43 runs
  • Sydney Thunder leads the BBL season 10 table with 22 points (6 wins in 8 matches) followed by Sydney Sixers with 21 points (5 wins in 8 matches)
  • On Saturday, 09 January 2021 - Perth Scorchers will play with Sydney Thunder in match 34 of BBL season 10
  • Due to Covid conditions, authorities are shifting three BBL 10 matches from Sydney to Manuka Oval, Canberra

 

Cricket | West Indies tour of Bangladesh

  • West Indies will be playing three One-day Internationals (ODIs), two T20s, and two Tests with Bangladesh in January and February 2021
  • West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd has been tested Covid positive and will not be playing any match in Bangladesh
  • Romario will be replaced by Keon Harding
  • Earlier, 8 key West Indies players (including Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo) declined to visit Bangladesh due to severe Covid conditions
  • Have a feeling that West Indies might get beaten by the hosts in this tour

  • Cricket - Flamboyant cricketer Chris Gayle is pitching for introducing the T10 cricket format in Olympics, with the USA as the venue. The idea is to generate more and more revenue. Chris Gayle will be playing Abu Dhabi T10 tournament starting from 28 January 2021
  • Cricket - Brisbane, which is the venue for the fourth and final test between Australia and India, will be under lockdown for three days due to Covid. Indians have again requested to either change the venue for the final test or allow the same freedom to them as being given to other people in Australia
  • Chess - 14-year old Leon Mendonca fought through the Covid hardships to become a chess Grandmaster. Traveled 7 European countries, participated in 16 tournaments, and at the end got stuck in Budapest due to travel restrictions, but who can stop a star from shining!
  • Football - Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, the owner of Manchester City, bought the FA Cup trophy for $1 million under an auction and gifted it to the National Football Museum in Manchester for his respect for English football. The club won this trophy way back in 1904

 

Cricket | Interesting memory

  • Taking about Chris Gayle today, I remember what he did to the Bangladeshi debutant bowler Sohag Gazi way back in 2012
  • Gayle hit the poor chap for a six on the very first ball of the Test
  • Sohag Gazi must have got the shock of his life!
