  • The second Test between New Zealand and Pakistan started today
  • New Zealand won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first
  • Pakistan scored 297 (all-out) by the end of Day 1
  • This is a respectable score by the Pakistani players, at one point in time they were at 83/4
  • Azhar Ali was the highest scorer for Pakistan (93 runs) followed by Mohammad Rizwan (61 runs)
  • If you remember, Mohammad Rizwan is the stand-in captain (and wicketkeeper) for this test as their captain Babar Azam is injured
  • Kyle Jamieson was the best bowler from the New Zealand side as he took 5 wickets for 69 runs

  • On Monday, 04 January 2021 two matches will be played
  • The first match will be Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes
  • Second match will be Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder


Cricket | Sri Lanka tour of South Africa

  • The second test started today between Sri Lanka and South Africa
  • Sri Lanka won the toss, decided to bat first, and put up a small total of 157 runs (all-out)
  • Only one Sri Lankan batsman was able to score a half-century (Kusal Perera 60 runs)
  • For South Africa, Anrich Nortje was the best bowler taking 6 wickets by giving 66 runs
  • Wiaan Mulder took 3 wickets for 25 runs
  • South Africa was 148/1 by the end of day 1, trailing by 9 runs
  • South African players on the field are Dean Elgar (92 runs) and Rassie Dussen (40 runs)
  • As of now, South Africa leads the two-tests series by 1-0, which soon will be converted to 2-0 looking at Sri Lanka's performance


Cricket | India tour of Australia | Breach of Biosecurity Protocols update

  • Five Indian players which were surrounded by the controversy of breaching Biosecurity Protocols will be playing the third Test on 07 January 2021 (Thank God!)

Cricket | Tax issues around T20I World Cup 2021

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has applied to Indian tax authorities for exempting the T20I World Cup 2021 from the tax net
  • If disapproved, BCCI would be required to pay INR 906 crore
  • Even if partially approved by the Indian tax authorities, still, BCCI would be paying at least INR 227 crores tax
  • Given the uncertainty, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has kept the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a backup venue to host the World Cup 


Badminton | Two Super 1000 events in Thailand

  • Yonex Thailand Open is scheduled from 12 January 2021 to 17 January 2021
  • Toyota Thailand Open is scheduled from 19 January 2021 to 24 January 2021
  • Kidambi Srikanth, B Sai Praneeth, and Saina Nehwal (along with other badminton team members) will be participating in the tournament
  • P V Sindhu, who is getting trained in London, will also soon join the team
